OUR HISTORY
Our company was established in Leicestershire in 1991 by George Borrett (pictured here) and his son Mark.
George had a wealth of experience in the trade working on the tools for Bernard Hastie for many years also as a supervisor, as well as teaching City & Guilds at Grantham college.
In fact, he was the oldest lagger in the country with City & Guilds papers because he sat the exams with his students. He thought it was wrong teaching the trade and not having the qualifications himself, as when he came into the trade the exams never existed.
When Hastie’s was finally amalgamated with Kitsons Contracts, he decided to go on his own and started Economic Insulations Services with two partners until 1991.
Mark is time served as a coppersmith with GEC gas turbines at Whetstone (the test centre of Sir Frank Whittle). He joined Economic Insulations in 1982, working on the tools installing insulation on site. Later spent a lot of time measuring jobs for manufacture, using the sheet metal skills manufacturing for himself and others to fit.

After an accident on site in April 1991 Mark was left disabled after shattering both his elbow and humerus bone (complete upper arm). Unable to perform on site work, it was decided that Father and Son would start up together and so JD Insulations was born in October 1991.
Although many throughout the trade deemed them a running joke, with one disabled, and one near pensioner it was set to be a recipe for disaster, however like a phoenix from the ashes JD Insulations has grown from strength to strength with a reputation that stands proud over 30 years later.
Unfortunately, George passed away in 1997 at the age of 65. It is so sad that many laggers do not live much into retirement.
Since then, Mark has run the business with the aid of a good team of valued workmates, also with a wealth of experience on site and in the fabrication side. JD Insulations was started with family at the heart and this theme continues at its core. Although both officially retired, both Mark and his Wife Debbie are very much still a part of the team, although now behind the scenes.
With the day to day running of the business and personnel is now being handled by Haylie and Stacey takes care of both the office and administration. Both of which are Mark and Debbie’s daughters. The production team consists of a tightly knit, diverse, trusted and highly skilled team.
In 2009, JD Insulation became JD Insulation Ltd. Since the very first days, Mark has nurtured and encouraged his and his father’s dream to grow, which has greatly helped us reach where we are today: one of the UK’s leading manufacturers of cladding for the insulation trade.
